Rooter Guy is here to help you avoid serious property damage with our drain cleaning and preventative service to keep your drains clear of buildup and blockages.

Let’s face it — clogged drains are disgusting. When you consider that they happen due to dirt, hair, grease, waste, and other debris blocking the efficient flow of water through the pipes, it’s pretty gross. But when you think a little more about how, if ignored, a clogged drain can eventually cause your sewer to back up, the whole thing becomes revolting.

Why Drain Cleaning is So Important

Many home and business owners don’t think much about the condition of their pipes until things are floating the way they expect. But, clogs and backups don’t happen overnight. More than just an inconvenience, not conducting proper drain cleaning can lead to serious problems.

Serious Health Risks

All of the hair, grease, and food that gets trapped in your pipes combined with the dark moisture your plumbing system provides is a breeding ground for all sorts of microbes. While some of these mini-lifeforms help break down the clogs, the presence of bacteria like salmonella or fungi like black mold can cause serious health concerns in people and pets.

Blockages Cause Breaks

Your plumbing system is the cardiovascular system of your home. Just like your arteries, when there is a buildup or blockage in the pipes and water cannot effectively flow through without being obstructed, it will create new paths. The force of flowing water is great enough to carve valleys in mountain ranges and will find its way through your home, too. Many times these new waterways result in burst pipes and complete backups.

Prevents Costly Repairs

Simple clogs, left unchecked, can result in damage throughout your entire plumbing system. Where a small clog of settled grease begins, it quickly attracts and collects other passing debris that builds up into a tight blockage. Parts of this clog may eventually break off and flow further down your plumbing system, taking up root in other turns or narrowing pipes. Once a clog is causing flow problems or pipe breaks, it can be incredibly costly to fix. Getting your pipes cleaned routinely or at the first sign of trouble can save you time, money, and hassle.

When you need your pipes cleaned, look no further than the licensed, bonded, and insured team at Rooter Guy.

Common Causes of Drain Clogs

Drain clogs are so common that many people assume they are just an annoying routine part of life and proof that plumbing systems haven’t readily evolved over time. Despite advances in plumbing systems over the years, the same things keep clogging up the system at no fault of the pipes.

Non-Toilet Papers

It should be common knowledge, in this day in age, that toilet paper is specifically designed to break down in your sewer system rather than collect and cause clogs. However, the most common cause of drain clogs continues to be non-toilet papers including baby wipes, “flushable” wipes, paper towels, and facial tissues. None of these products break down in your septic system, rather they sit and act as a collection point for other solids and debris. Using only toilet paper in your toilet will save your sewage system and prevent most toilet clogs and septic backups.

Hair

Despite popular belief, hair should never be allowed to wash down the drain. It does not go away, it sits in your pipes collecting other hairs (the same way your vacuum rotator does) and other floating debris, creating a large nest of vicious clog. Yes, even trimmed beard hair washed down the sink is long enough to cause serious clogs over time. Using hair catchers over your drains and throwing away hair rather than washing it down the drain or flushing it will save you from most bathroom clogs.

Grease

A splash of oil here, rinsing out of a bacon pan there, and over a few years, you’ve got a clog nearly the diameter of your pipes. Pouring grease into a grease collector rather than down the sink will prevent most kitchen drain clogs (and protect your garbage disposal, too!).

If you’ve already got a clog that’s causing flow issues, call the team that will get you flowing again in no time. Don’t wait until the water is backing up to get Rooter Guy on the job, call today!
